Originally, the El Camino Theatre was
built in 1928 in the grand manner of movie palaces. The décor was opulent, with wide sweeping stairways, chandeliers and gold-encrusted walls. When television invaded the United States, the movie palaces fell on hard times. The theatre was stripped of all its glory in 1953 when it became a JC Penney store. Purchased in 2001, the building was transformed by completing a full seismic upgrade and conversion to 30,000 square feet of retail and Class 'A' office space.
